I do really enjoy coming up with ideas based on one word. I might keep doing that after October is over.
For day 18th the theme word is escape. The first ideas are usually connected to something action based or stories about heroes. I do enjoy those, but I thought I will do something a little more thoughtful. So I started sketching the idea already knowing what I am going for. First I said I will show in my picture all the characters of this drama, but after making a sketch, the one on the bottom left, it was clear too me that focusing on one character is the better solution. So, I thought, the kid should be my main focus, because through her reaction you can connect much better and maybe recall some feelings from when you where a kid. So I went with that.
Deciding where to add the darkest value is not easy. But I try to think about it like that : I could add dark contrast on my focus, or I could make dark notes around my focus, by pointing on the focus. Of course in this image now you look first to the shadow, which is not really my main focus, it is actually the girl, but this helps into understanding the girl's feelings.
I have this version where I couldn't decide to make the shadows darker or not. Finally I think it added more drama to it, so, sometimes risking is not that bad. This is all for today. I hope I can write more entertaining things in the future :) Have a nice Tuesday!

Line work in pencil as usual :)
